Where to Wash a Comforter Near Me: What You Need in Hillsborough, Princeton, or Linden, NJ

Why Your Home Washer Can't Handle a Comforter

Most standard home washing machines — top-loaders especially — simply aren't built for bulky items. A queen or king comforter needs room to move freely through water to actually get clean. When it's crammed into a small drum, you end up with a comforter that comes out still smelling musty, unevenly washed, or worse, one that damages your machine's drum or suspension over time.

The same goes for heavy blankets, sleeping bags, dog beds, and oversized throw pillows. These items need a high-capacity, front-loading commercial washer to do the job right — and that's exactly what you'll find at Superwash Laundromat.

What Size Machine Do You Need?

Here's a simple guide based on item size:

  • Twin comforter or light blanket: A standard commercial washer (20–25 lb capacity) handles this easily
  • Queen comforter: You'll want a large-capacity machine, 30–40 lb
  • King comforter or heavy duvet: Go with the largest available machine, 50–60 lb capacity, to give it room to tumble properly
  • Sleeping bag or dog bed: Treat these like a queen comforter — err on the side of more space

At Superwash, our locations in Linden, Princeton, Hillsborough and Trenton all carry multiple machine sizes so you're never forced to stuff a king comforter into an undersized drum.

How to Wash Your Comforter at Superwash

It's simpler than most people expect. Here's what to do:

  1. Choose the right machine. Pick the largest available front-loader. If you're unsure, ask the attendant on duty — they'll point you in the right direction.
  2. Use the right amount of detergent. Less than you think. Commercial machines are high-efficiency, so a small amount of HE detergent goes a long way. Overdoing it leaves residue in the fill.
  3. Select a gentle or bulky cycle. Most of our machines have a dedicated bulky items setting. Use warm water for most comforters, cold for anything down-filled or labeled delicate.
  4. Run a second rinse if needed. For thick comforters, an extra rinse ensures all the detergent is fully out.
  5. Dry on low heat, longer than you think. Comforters hold moisture deep in the fill. Run a full dry cycle — or two — on low or medium heat. Pull it out and fluff it halfway through to prevent clumping.

Don't Want to Deal With It? Drop It Off.

All four Superwash locations offer wash and fold service. You can drop off your comforter, blankets, or any other laundry and we'll handle the washing, drying, and folding for you. Princeton, Hillsborough, Linden and Trenton offer same-day turnaround if dropped off in the morning.
