Is Wash & Fold Worth It? What It Costs — and What You Get — in Linden, Princeton, and Hillsborough, NJ

What Is Wash and Fold, Exactly?

Wash and fold — sometimes called drop-off laundry service or fluff and fold — is exactly what it sounds like. You bring in your laundry, hand it off to the attendant, and come back later to pick it up clean, dried, and neatly folded. No waiting around. No loading and unloading machines. No folding at the kitchen table at 11 PM.

It's a service that's been growing steadily in popularity — not just for people without washers at home, but for busy families, commuters, professionals, and anyone who's decided their time is worth more than a Saturday afternoon in the laundromat.

How Does It Work at Superwash?

The process at all three of our New Jersey locations is straightforward:

  1. Bring in your laundry in a bag, hamper, or basket — however it comes
  2. Drop it off with the attendant, who will weigh it and give you a price and estimated pickup time
  3. Go do literally anything else — errands, work, time with your family
  4. Pick up your laundry clean, dry, and folded, usually within 24 hours (same-day available at Princeton and Hillsborough if dropped off in the morning)

Your clothes are never mixed with anyone else's laundry. Each order is washed separately, start to finish.

What Does It Cost?

Wash and fold pricing is calculated by the pound — meaning you only pay for what you bring in.

  • Hillsborough (601 US-206, Suite 18): $1.00/lb — the most affordable rate in the area
  • Princeton (301 N Harrison St, Suite 22): $1.35/lb
  • Linden (1025 W St Georges Ave, Suite 12): Ask the attendant for current pricing

To put that in perspective: a typical week's worth of laundry for one person weighs roughly 8–12 lbs. At our Hillsborough location, that's $8–$12 for a full week of clean, folded laundry handled by someone else.

Is It Actually Worth It?

That depends on what you're comparing it to. If you're doing laundry yourself at a laundromat, you're spending quarters on machines, buying detergent, and sitting there for 1.5 to 2 hours. Wash and fold costs a bit more per load, but you get that time back entirely.

If you have a washer and dryer at home, the math changes — but so does the question. Wash and fold isn't just about access to machines. It's about offloading a task that takes time, attention, and energy. For parents of young children, people with demanding work schedules, or anyone dealing with a particularly large backlog of laundry, that trade-off is often an easy yes.

What Wash and Fold Is Great For

  • Weekly laundry for one or two people
  • Family loads when life gets busy
  • Bedding, towels, and household linens
  • Catching up after travel or moving
